Meet Mrs. Sharma
NEMILIE · THE FOUNDER
Meet Mrs. Sharma.
Observer of Rooms. Keeper of Color. A woman with opinions.
My dear reader,
How lovely of you to be curious.
I suppose an introduction is in order, although I must confess that I have always found introductions rather revealing. We are expected to summarize ourselves in a few respectable sentences, preferably beginning with a job title and ending with something suitably impressive.
A curious way to introduce a human being, don't you think?
So allow me to do this a little differently.
I am Mrs. Sharma. The woman behind Nemilie. A professional, a mother, a lifelong admirer of beautiful things, and someone who has spent considerable time observing the unspoken rules of the rooms we women inhabit.
Particularly the ones where everyone is wearing navy.
Now, I have nothing against navy. It is a perfectly respectable color. I simply question why respectability so often seems to come with such a limited palette.
I have always been fascinated by the difference between belonging in a room and disappearing into it.
I have built a career in the corporate world. I know the language of strategy, deadlines, presentations, and decisions that cannot wait until Monday.
I know what it means to be prepared, to be capable, to work hard for a seat at the table, and then to discover that having a seat does not necessarily mean being free to be entirely yourself.
Somewhere along the way, women become extraordinarily skilled at editing themselves.
We edit our words to sound less demanding. Our ambitions to sound more agreeable. Our clothes to look more serious. Sometimes even our joy, lest it be mistaken for a lack of gravitas.
Good heavens. It is exhausting just writing that.
And yet, I have also met remarkable women who refuse to make themselves smaller. Women who are intelligent without apology, generous without being meek, ambitious without asking permission, and wonderfully themselves in rooms that were not necessarily designed with them in mind.
Those are my kind of women.
A Few Things You Should Know
I come from a world where color has always meant something. Growing up in India, I learned that beauty need not whisper to be elegant.
I believe a woman can love a beautiful handbag and be perfectly capable of discussing a balance sheet. That she can be deeply devoted to her family and fiercely protective of her own ambitions. That she can be serious about her work without taking every convention quite so seriously.
I believe practicality is essential. I simply refuse to believe it must be dull.
And I have a particular affection for women who walk into a room carrying something unexpected. Not because they need attention, but because they have stopped asking permission to be seen.
Elegance, my dear, was never meant to be synonymous with invisibility.
Why Mrs. Sharma?
You may have noticed that I have not offered you a photograph, a professional biography, or an impressive collection of credentials.
This is quite deliberate.
Mrs. Sharma is my pen name. There is a real woman behind these words, a real career, a real family, and a very real conviction about what Nemilie should stand for.
My professional life and my creative life occupy different spaces, and for now, I intend to keep them that way.
Privacy, after all, is not the same as secrecy. Nor does a woman need to put every detail of her life on display to have something worth saying.
My identity is private.
My opinions are not.
And I rather like the freedom of that arrangement.
Consider This an Invitation
Nemilie is more than a collection of handbags to me. It is a small rebellion against the idea that growing into our responsibilities requires growing out of our individuality.
Through Nemilie, I hope to share beautiful things, candid observations, the occasional inconvenient truth, and a little encouragement for women who have spent years being everything to everyone.
There is room here for ambition and affection. For strength and softness. For impeccable preparation and an entirely unnecessary amount of color.
Especially the color.
So whether you have come for the handbags, the stories, or simply the pleasure of finding someone who understands the peculiar theater of professional life, I am delighted you are here.
My dear, you were never too much.
The room was always too small.
With color, conviction, and considerable opinions,
Mrs. Sharma
